Bring Your Daughter to Work

Today is National Bring Your Daughter to Work Day.  I can’t figure out if there’s a corporation that benefits from this, in the crass way that the greeting card and boxed chocolate cartels have inflated Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and scores of other holidays until you find yourself in the drugstore worrying over just the right Arbor’s Day card and think, “Don’t I have something more important to do?”  Personally, I’m glad such a day exists.  Since Infant Harbat became Baby Harbat than Child Harbat, I’ve been wishing for the day she was old enough to come with me to work, color quietly, and see what I do for a living.  So far so good, except the quiet part.  Child Harbat’s voice volume level starts at the bottom at ‘Normal Loud’ then graduates to ‘Excited Loud’, followed by ‘Extra Loud’, ‘Deafening Roar’, and ‘Shuttle Liftoff’.  And it appears she’s discovered the electric pencil sharpener is the crème de la crème of office appliances.

At least our office has lots of art supplies, paper, and people who understand the fun of building models and arts and crafts.  Mostly it’s a delight to look over and see my daughter busy at work.  Keep going, kid, you’ve got to earn that 401k.

My little one goes to “Shuttle Liftoff” all the time, everywhere. I’m a stay-at-home parent, so I guess I bring my daughter to work with me everyday. 😉

Nice photos. I bet she had a good day.

Thanks. I have no idea why she had such a look of concern sharpening her pencils. And props to you for being a stay-at-home parent. Definitely one of the toughest jobs out there, along with oil rig technician, quarry blasting foreman, and elevator hoister.

  2. 1) Adorable pictures!

    2) “Keep going, kid, you’ve got to earn that 401k.” Tee-hee!

Thanks, Deborah. You can see her pink lunchbox in the background, something she insisted needed to be opened up for a snack at 8:30 after we got to work. Sharpening pencils burns calories!

I love the expression on her face in the pencil-sharpening photo. Sort of, “where has this been all my life?”

She sort of looks like she got caught using the electric sharpener. Hope you got some good designs from all those colored pencils!
