Last of Us Cosplay – Ellie outfit

The final chapter in making a Joel and Ellie costume pair for ComicCon 2015:  Ellie.  Unfortunately my daughter wasn’t around to show off the clothes personally but you can see how it all came together.  I recommend cleaning out your barbecue or fireplace with the shirt, leaving it in the sun for a few months, and cutting it up and ripping the seams.  Or you can just give it to a seven year-old and have her wear it to school for a few weeks.

The undershirt is supposed to be black but it’s damned impossible to find a long-sleeved black shirt in summer in Southern California.  So dark blue had to make do.  The jeans just needed some dirt and a few tears.  Here’s a closeup of the dirt and wear on the shirt.

She also had some props:  an empty bottle to distract enemies and a brick made from floral foam.  The brick’s paint wore off quick so I guess you have to soak it in paint to get it in all the nooks and crannies so it doesn’t wear.  But it looked amazing when freshly-painted.

Then there’s the backpack.  The best I could do for a kid’s dark blue backpack was on EBay for about ten bucks.  Ellie’s had a dark teal bottom but I couldn’t find that pack.  The pins and stuffie toy are from some great cosplay and Last of Us fans on Etsy.  The flashlight works and is also from EBay.

Just like with Joel’s pack, I went after this with the sander and wire brush along with some charcoal and dirt.  CH had lots of fun abusing this bag.  Finally are the shoes, and I new I needed some well-worn Chucks to finish off Ellie’s look.  Once again…Ebay.  Ten bucks.

And there you have it!  Overall not a difficult costume and finding the components was a fun challenge.  Now I need to get her a bow and arrow for next year’s ComicCon…
