Let’s Talk Beer

Before we get into talking and words and all that extra “content” you have to wade through on the internet just to get to cute pictures of cats or AMAZING AB TRICKS, let’s look at a picture.

Nice, huh?  This was my Father’s Day present this year from my fantastic wife who, A)planned ahead and, B)chose wisely.  Besides being super cool and sturdy and rustic, it’s customized.  Now my hobby has something official about it, like adding a couple letters after your name on a business card.  Fancy!  Also, it’s big enough to hold 22oz bombers or wide swing-cap bottles.  In fact it’ll hold nine regular straight-sided 12-oz bottles.  Which is enough for a hobbit to consume in an hour.

What have I brewed recently?  A Karupatti Cream Ale.  It’s named for the jaggery I used in brewing and only after I’d written and applied the labels to I remember I used kolhapuri jaggery and not karupatti jaggery.  Do you have any idea what I’m talking about?  Click here to learn more!  How does it taste?  Ummm…a bit weird.  The sugars and yeast are adding a strong estery component that muddies up the flavor, though there’s a nice bready smooth finish once you get through that.  And it doesn’t seem to have carbonated well so it’s not at all what I was hoping for.  So this weekend I’m brewing a Scottish celebration ale with some Golden Promise and peat-smoked malts and Fuggle and Saaz hops.  And NO sugars.
