Adonis

He’s strong and golden, a god among men, a lover among gods.  The Festival of Adonis was celebrated by women sowing seeds of wheat and barley, so it’s an appropriate name for a beer.  And Adonis was worshiped by girls from the island of Lesbos so…draw your own conclusions there.  My Adonis is a Belgian golden strong ale and it is all three of those things cranked up to 11.  The Belgian yeast strain used for this gives this beer a fruity and spicy kick.  It’s as golden as the locks on a muscled god.  And strong?  It clocks in at 8.3% ABV and is unabashed about it, as an Adonis should be.

The details?  Citra hops, orange peel, a bit of wheat with the strong malt backbone, and a late dry-hopping addition that gives you a noseful of citrus to go with the Belgian yeast.

You could do worse to have a date with Adonis this Valentine’s Day.  And like any successful date on February 14th you’ll wake up the next morning feeling great but without a clear notion of what happened between eight and midnight.  Cheers!
