Thanks for Making it Easier

Every year my wife comes up with an ambitious Thanksgiving menu.  I’m all about handmade foods but when you’re trying to clean the house, chase Toddler Harbat, and decipher a ten-page recipe for gratinee of seared confit in a bed of wilted fricassee, you begin to think holidays are more work than work.  But this year reason has prevailed:  my wife has agreed to keep it simple.  Huzzah!

I’ve already made all the bread in advance, the turkey will be turkey breast instead of the whole bones/legs/gizzards mess that takes an hour to clean and prep, five hours to cook, an hour to carve and serve, five minutes to eat, and another hour to clean, store away the meat, and take out the trash.  This year, with any luck, we’ll get five minutes to actually sit and eat, relax, and enjoy the holiday.  For my part, I’ll be giving thanks that that I haven’t spent the whole day cleaning and cooking.  After all, is the holiday for itself or for us?  Happy Thanksgiving!
