Random Bags and Coming Home

Two quick thoughts on parenting.

One:  be prepared for random items in unexpected places.  Last night I found on the couch a mesh bag filled with two miniature pumpkins, a glittery smiley face sticker, and several small ficus berries.  Knowing the backstory probably won’t explain it, but here goes: the berries were “cocoa berries” which Toddler Harbat insisted on having me carry around all day at work then brought into the bath with her.  None have sprouted yet, so they were put in the bag for…well, I’m not sure.  The pumpkins were added to the bag because they were recent purchases so they just ought to go in bag, thus saeth the three-year old.  Why on the couch?  Because the next projects beckoned: making drumsticks out of chopsticks and then creating invitations to a “witchy party” from notepaper and stickers.

Two:  coming home after a full day of work and seeing my daughter’s face in the dining room window is the very best part of my day.  As I fumble to unlock the door I hear her struggling with the handle, and before I even cross the threshold she leaps into my arms and gives me a tight hug.

“Hi Babbo!  C’mon come see my new witchy broom!”

Everything, and I mean everything, is worth that.

Isn’t parenting the absolute best thing in the world. You know that even seeing your grown children brings as much pleasure and joy! Love that dress! 🙂
